Safety First At The Half Century Of Progress
|
| Folks attending the 2009 Half Century Of Progress will notice that the safe operation of equipment is considered an important responsibility by all operators at this show. Safety is not taken lightly here. As they move around the show grounds, equipment operators will be looking out for themselves and for you. Starting with the 2007 show, anyone intending to operate tractors or machinery at the Half Century Of Progress was required to attend one of the morning safety seminars held daily in Hangar Two of the Rantoul National Aviation Center. Conducted by Kankakee County Deputy Sheriff Craig Long, himself an owner and operator of farm tractors, the well-attended seminars focus on all of the safe operation skills needed for these old machines, both on the road and in the field. While short in duration, taking little time from the fun of working at the Half Century Of Progress, the safety seminars formalize the safe operation ethic essential at these vintage farm equipment shows. At a show of the scope and magnitude of the Half Century Of Progress, with its large equipment line-up and its huge crowds, organizers believe that safety awareness cannot be emphasized too much. You will recognize the safety-certified operators at this show, as they will all be wearing special "operator" badges. Those operators, too, will later receive a suitable-for-framing safe operator certificate to display in their home, shop or business. Safety "field marshals" will also be visible at this show. On hand to monitor field demonstrations of equipment, as well as the crowds observing the activities, these volunteers will be available to summon help in the event first-aid is needed. Organizers of the Half Century Of Progress believe that the best way to have an enjoyable, memorable experience here is to have a SAFE experience. |
