Largest Flying American Flag In The World Coming To Rantoul
|
| The 2009 Half Century Of Progress will feature the Stars & Stripes in a big way. The largest flying American flag will fly between two towering cranes, nine stories above the show grounds, at the Rantoul National Aviation Center. The flag, 65 feet tall and 120 feet wide, when displayed at its home in Gastonia, North Carolina, is attached to a pole 225 feet tall. The mast has a diameter of 5 feet at its base and 18 inches around at the top. The pole weighs 80,000 pounds and is anchored on a shaft extending into the North Carolina soil a depth of 25 feet. Visible at Gastonia for 30 miles, the 7,800 square-foot flag weighs over 180 pounds, with each of the 14 stripes measuring 5 feet in height. Each of the 50 stars is 4 feet from tip to tip. The flag is the result of the efforts of the Gaston chapter of the United Veterans of America to express their patriotism. The Half Century of Progress is very proud to share this magnificent tribute to our nation with folks attending the 2009 show. Bring your tractor and your family to Rantoul to have your picture taken next to the World's Largest Flying American Flag. |
