Are you making your plans to jump on board for Max's Annual Tractor Ride? We're looking forward to a colorful parade of tractors. We're wondering which color will be represented most -- Red, Green, Yellow, Gray, Blue, -- whatever lets make it long and noteworthy. We will begin by departing the Rantoul National Aviation Center Airport and
1. Travel to Maplewood Drive, turn left and proceed north on Maplewood Dr. (1700E)
2. Go north on 1700E to 3200N and turn East (right) to 1900E
3. Proceed on 1900E to 000N (County Line Road - a tour of Dogtown) turn East (right)
(Note: You will pass by historic Pleasant Grove Church.) 4. Continue on County Line Road to Co. Rd. 22 passing the scenic Champaign County Forest Preserve Take Co. Rd. 22 into Penfield, turn East (left) on Max Armstrong Street.
TIME FOR LUNCH at the I&I Museum in Penfield
It's a perfect time to browse through the full Farm Museum at the I&I and also see the world's first production gasoline tractor The 1903 Hart-Parr #3 Gas Powered Tractor and the one of its kind 1960 Experimental IH Gas-Turbine Powered HT-340 Hydrostatic Drive Tractor on loan from the Smithsonian National Museum of American History Behring Center now on display at the I&I Museum. (It might even be a good time to ride through the nearby I&I Timber Trails)
Following the lunch break, Max will continue to take the lead. Leaving Penfield , turn South (left) on Rd. 22.
5. At Co. Rd. 2500N (Daily) turn West (right). (Note: Three miles west of Daily, on the right, is the highest point of Champaign County.) Continuing west on 2500N, passing on the left,the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Flatville. Further west is the Ehler Brothers Fertilizer and Seed Company Farm where we will stop for a break before resuming the ride west to Route 45 at Thomasboro
6. At Rt. 45 turn North (right) and continue to Chandler Road in Rantoul and turn East (right)
7. Continue East on Chandler Rd. passing the Campground on the left. Continue when Chandler Road turns into Perimeter South until the intersection at Perimeter East, and then turn North (left)
8. Go north on Perimeter East and follow the signs that will lead back to the Rantoul National Aviation Center. If weather permits we will enter the former Air Force Base under the world's largest flying American Flag.
(Please Note: Due to road repairs, etc., these directions may be altered. However the complete 50 Mile route will be marked throughout to assist you.)
